The gateway of India is a monument built during the British rule in Mumbai city located at the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai. The structure is a basalt arch and at the Mumbai harbours water edge It was a crude jetty used by the fishing community which later developed to becoming a landing place for British governors and prominent entities !
The gateway became and is a top tourist attraction in the city and is often referred to as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai.
